Description
The Segundo Cabo Palace is located in the north side of Plaza de Armas Square, Old Havana.
This majestic palace, as well as the Capitanes Generales Palace is Neoclassical in style. I was built in 1772, in local limestone full of holes and marine calcareous incrustations.
Its construction was commanded by the Marquis de la Torre, Cuban governor, who also commanded the other four great constructions closing the Plaza de Armas Square. Eventually, only this one was finally built alongside with the Capitanes Generales Palacio, nowadays housing the City Museum.
This building was built as headquarters of the Spanish vice-governor. It was rehabilitated several times, working as Post office, Senate Palace, Supreme Court, National Academy of Arts and Letters, or the Cuba Academy of Science. Currently, it belongs to the Ministry of Culture of Cuba, housing on its interior the official editorial and a wonderful bookshop.
On its interior stands out the Raúl Martínez Gallery Room, an amazing pop art sample.
