Mboro

Description

Mboro is a small-town coast in the Northwest of Senegal, located on the section of the coast called Grande-Côte (Big coast).

History

towards the years 1862-1863, troops of Pinet-Laprade, former Governor of Senegal, noticed the site which was contained then only by few Fulani villages. In 1936, the colonial administration decided to set up an agricultural station for vegetable and fruit production, and Mboro was created. There were some material benefits, people in the neighborhood were strongly encouraged to settle there.

Geography

The city is located 25 km to the West of Tivaouane and 117 km North of Dakar.

 Economic activities

Mboro live mainly from fishing, market gardening, the extraction and processing of phosphates from the mine of  ICS, the chemical industry of Senegal formerly CSPT Phosphates of Taiba Senegalese company.

Its close location  to the coast is also conducive to tourist activities for followers of the tourist preferring to get out of the conventional paths.
