Djifer

Description

Djifer (sometimes Djiffer or Djifère) is a village in Senegal, located 10km south of Palmarin, at the end of a narrow strip of land to the point of Sangomar.

Until February 1987, the point of Sangomar extendeds well beyond Djifer, but a storm separated it into two. The distance between the Earth and this new island continues to expand, so much so that the port had to be transferred to diahanor.

The existence of the village of Djifer could be threatened in a few years.

Djifer is a village of fishermen that often serves as a point of departure for excursions by canoe in the Saloum delta(delta du Saloum). This quiet environment is responsible for swimming, but pollution from the beach sometimes deters the visitors.

Funded with the assistance of the european Union, a fishing quay is predispose at the edge of the river, near the village.

For those who have had the chance to go there, it’s a peaceful place where idleness is the only proposed activity. Peace, silence, a few coconut trees, blue sea and sand are the only things that you will see. The North of the coast is where you can reach by road Joal-Palmarin (in good condition) until tip of Sangomar, the rural community of Djiffer extends up to a sea full of fishs.

The visit to Djiffer Island, is an old continental point of Sangomar, a moment of happiness. In the little street of the village island, the small house is sheltered by some Baobab trees or coconut trees live to the rhythm of the canoes and fishing. The electricity here is not ready to come and the island has not seen a single vehicle since 1987 (the date of the storm that was free from the continent).
