Description
The Casa de José de Alencar is a cultural institution maintained by the Federal University of Ceará and registered by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute in 1964 . The area of the institution houses a house where José de Alencar lived his childhood, now Messejana neighborhood, in Fortaleza.
History
The place was called Sítio Alagadiço Novo and was acquired by José Martiniano de Alencar when his first presidency in the then Province of Ceará as his private residence. Its current area is nine hectares and comprises a small house of the original set erected in 1826 , nowadays called "house", the ruins of the first steam engine of Ceará, the Arthur Ramos Museum, Pinacoteca Floriano Teixeira, Biblioteca Braga Montenegro and a restaurant.
In the place there was also the large house that was destroyed. The "house" retains its original, simple construction, with tiled floors, brick and lime walls, vain tile, a level, four-roofed roof, used carnauba wood for rafters.
